Aboriginal Education
The Aboriginal Education Team at Challa Gardens includes
- Aboriginal Community Education Officer
- Wellbeing Leader
This team is committed to engaging all learners in the curriculum and extending educational outcomes for Aboriginal children, particularly in Literacy and Numeracy.
The team provides wellbeing and community support for families and meet with families and groups on a regular basis or as required.
Each year, 12 students from years 4-7 are selected to participate in the MALPA Young Doctors for Life program, a unique, culturally derived, grass roots approach to train Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal children (9-12 year olds) to become young doctors. This empowers students to take control of their health destiny and help shape the future in their family and community.
The APAS Scheme provides additional funding for students requiring assistance in these curriculum areas to ensure they receive additional support and achieve success.
Aboriginal Perspectives and related curriculum content are taught in all year levels across the school as well as engagement in Cultural Celebrations in both NAIDOC Week and Reconciliation Week.
