EALD (English as an Additional Language or Dialect)

Challa Gardens Primary School students come from many different cultural backgrounds providing rich diversity in our school. We promote and celebrate our cultural diversity by spreading understanding, tolerance and respect.

EALD support is provided in class for students who were either born overseas, have one or both parents born overseas or identify with another cultural background. The English curriculum is explicitly taught with gaps in EALD students’ understanding of English addressed. Teachers monitor progress of EALD students annually using the Department for Education LEAP levels.

Interpreters can be made available if required.
